- Quagga \Quag"ga\, n. [Hottentot.] (Zool.) A South African wild ass (Equus quagga syn. {Hippotigris quagga}). The upper parts are reddish brown, becoming paler behind and behind and beneath, with dark stripes on the face, neck, and fore part of the body.
