- Banana \Ba*na"na\ (b[.a]*n[aum]"n[.a]; 277), n. [Sp. banana, name of the fruit.] (Bot.) A perennial herbaceous plant of almost treelike size ({Musa sapientum}); also, its edible fruit. See Musa. [1913 Webster]
