Hagbut \Hag"but\ (-b[u^]t), n. [OF. haquebute, prob. a
corruption of D. haakbus; haak hook + bus gun barrel. See

A harquebus, of which the but was bent down or hooked for
convenience in taking aim. [Written also haguebut and
hackbuss.]
