  • fecula \fec"u*la\, n.; pl. fecul[ae] [L.faecula burnt tartar or salt of tartar, dim. of faex, faecis, sediment, dregs: cf. F. f['e]cule.] Any pulverulent matter obtained from plants by simply breaking down the texture, washing with water, and subsidence. Especially: (a) The nutritious part of wheat; starch or farina; -- called also amylaceous fecula. (b) The green matter of plants; chlorophyll. [1913 Webster]
